Entering its fourth year, Connected TV Summit has a reputation for delivering thought leadership and insights that are a valuable addition to any strategic research. There are lively debates and there is excellent networking. In response to delegate feedback last year we are going to provide even more time for panel debates and one-to-one interviews in 2013. As usual, we will be encouraging audience participation in the venue and from our online viewers, and we will have our dedicated event Twitter feed again.
Connected is the new digital because it impacts everyone and changes everything and 2013 will be a big year in the Connected TV marketplace. CE portals must compete with HBB platforms and increasingly connected Pay TV operators. There is a new market opportunity called ‘Pay TV Lite’ and CE makers need to stabilize and rationalize their apps environments before fragmentation really hurts them. Pay TV and CE cooperation is about to move up a gear.

Cross-Screen Content and Consumers
The IAB AfterFronts—hot on the heels of the second annual Digital Content NewFronts—spotlights how content creators and brands reach and engage the untethered consumer.
Video everywhere is a reality. Sight, sound, and motion—regardless of place, space, technology, platform, or device—create untold opportunities for brand advertising. But, challenges too abound. How can you reach an audience when they are, by definition, fragmented and dispersed? How do you create rich creative experiences that scale fluidly from the largest of screens to those that can literally fit in the palm of your hand? What are the clear, connected metrics that prove it’s working?
IAB AfterFronts addresses these questions by bringing together big ideas, practical real-world examples, and the best tools and solutions in the marketplace.

These bricks and mortar retail transactions are being assisted by recommendation engines, content experiences and social comment. Are we in the midst of a transition that will see retailers becoming content companies and content companies becoming retailers? If so, what role will the media agency play? And, in the age of the algorithm, is the craft of media selling a thing of the past?

The 2013 IAB Annual Leadership Meeting will be focused around the conversation of BIg Data and Big Ideas. Go to discuss, debate, and define the interplay between information, insights, inspiration, and ideas—and to ultimately inform the future of our industry.
The conversation dominating the digital industry hinges on two competing points of view. One states that marketing success derives from a game-changing idea—the position, the strategy, the slogan; the emotional evocation that sustainably differentiates one brand from another. The other asserts that we no longer need these “big ideas.” “Big data” can do all the heavy lifting.
With enough analytic firepower, and access to the decisions, behaviors, and preferences, data can define the message, target the audiences, and deliver the results.
In the long history of marketing, the greatest names belong to creative geniuses: P.T. Barnum, William Bernbach, Leo Burnett, Jay Chiat, David Ogilvy, Dan Wieden. But, are the creative gurus of industry past about to be replaced by a new set of names? Will we one day look back at the fathers of applied mathematics—John von Neumann, Charles Sanders Peirce, Bertrand Russell, Ernst Zermelo—as the geniuses behind modern day advertising?
Are big data and big ideas inherently in conflict, or can they—must they—be reconciled?

The Multi-Screen Paradigm
Online video used to be thought of as TV’s kid brother, but digital video has had a growth spurt. Over 70 percent of the U.S. Web audience is watching online video, brands continue to be enamored by it and ad spending has increased. Despite this, brands, publishers and agencies are still grappling with the challenges of incorporating video as part of their overall marketing strategy. Digiday Video Conference will explore how the explosion of multiple distribution channels has shaken up existing business models and opened the door to new ones. Join us on November 13 as we discuss the current and future market -- and what it means for you!
